Over 7,000 School Supplies and Teacher Essentials

Educational supplies: tools for advancing student success.

Schoolteachers are special people! They dedicate their lives to helping students learn both in and out of the classroom. SchoolTeachers.org is a site dedicated to "Teachers Helping Teachers" be all they can be. To do that teachers need the best teaching supplies and materials available. The school supplies, subject materials, and school furniture and equipment that we provide are the best we can find. We always listen to you, our teaching professionals, to find and get the supplies and equipment you need.

From time to time we will include some specific information about a holiday or event that should be of interest to our SchoolTeacher community. We will also include general information that may assist you in providing your students with the best possible educational experience. This week we are focusing on...

Music in the Classroom

Teaching any art in the classroom is very rewarding. Along with this, it is something that most students enjoy. The example that I am going to use in this article is teaching music – which is one of the most important subjects that a student will learn.

Even though you are not an expert in music you may be asked to teach this to your students. Your students can easily be taught how to sing, as well as how to use basic instruments such as drums, triangles, blocks, and many others. To keep things very basic you can have your students use their bodies to make music – through stomping, clapping, whistling, etc.

If you need help getting started, here are some ideas that should work:

1. Start your students outs with basic scales. You can teach this by starting out with a simple song that uses notes in their proper order. Again, this is not advanced but it is a great place to start. This is a good way to introduce music to your classroom.

2. For future lessons, incorporate instruments such as bells. You can have your students line up and play their instrument, one at a time. Point to each one when it is his or her turn, and be sure to give everybody a fair chance.

3. With older children, teaching music and other fine arts is more advanced. At this point you will be able to expand your horizons and teach everything from pottery to theatre to airbrush and much more. Teaching Music in the Classroom is a big part of the overall learning experience. Since students start learning while they are in pre-school, by the time they get older it is safe to say that they are ready for more advanced lessons.

For more experienced children you can include more percussion instruments in your lesson plans. These are perfect for upper elementary children and older. For whatever reason, percussion instruments always seem to be popular.

The basics of teaching music to elementary students do not have to be confusing:

1. Have basic lesson plans that you can follow and build on, day after day. It is your job to decide how far you want to take students during your time with them.

2.  Make your lesson plans as flexible as possible. You never know when you will want to speed up or slow down. With flexible plans, you can do either without missing a beat.

3. Plan recitals for the rest of the school, and of course, friends and family. Tip: make sure you plan the performance a bit below your student’s actual skill level. This way they will do well in front of an audience for the first time.

4. Ask your students to practice at home. It is often times difficult to teach this subject because giving homework is next to impossible. That being said, you can ask your students to practice at home. Are your students allowed to take home instruments from the school? If so, encourage them to do this on a regular basis.

Teaching music in the classroom is definitely a worthwhile task. That being said, it can be challenging at times if you are not on top of your game. A music teacher must be organized from day one, while also being in touch with each and every student.

It is also a good idea to have a backup plan in case your lesson is too challenging or on the easy side. Remember, you always want to push your students to be better but only if they are ready to move to the next level.

With this information you should have a better idea of what goes into teaching music and other fine art subjects.

About the SchoolTeachers.org store

SchoolTeachers.org is organized into a number of different "departments" to make your shopping easier. Each of these departments contains additional categories to simplify your shopping even more. We will continue to refine and add more categories as we add more products. Of course, if you already know what you're looking for, you can always just put a keyword into the Search Products box (towards the upper right corner under the row of pictures.) And here's a tip, put a general word into the box and you'll bring up a lot of items, but you can then click on the category that you're interested in and it will narrow the choices. Recognize also that you may get some items that seem pretty out of this world, but it all depends on how the manufacturer classifies them. SchoolTeachers.org carries so many products that we just don't have the time to check everything that is on the website. We apologize in advance for any problems you may have, and hope you understand.

SchoolTeacher.org's Early Learning department includes supplies, learning games, and furniture and equipment for pre-kindergarten students including the special needs of infants and toddlers. This is where you will find daycare furniture and equipment including items from changing tables to play furniture to soft furniture. You will also find such school supplies as pre-reading workbooks and games to help teach the younger students numbers and counting.

Of course, every school needs great classroom decorations to keep the students attention and to help mark the changing seasons and upcoming holidays. SchoolTeachers.org's Classroom Decorations department fills the bill with hundreds of bulletin board sets, cut-outs, banners, two-sided decorations and more.

Have enough supplies to take care of the normal holidays? Banner paper can also be used to make beautiful murals to hang on your school hallway walls. Banner paper can even be used to cover and protect tables while you are doing other, messy crafts. All in all, banner paper is one of those very useful supplies that you should have available at all times in your classroom.
